Rescued animals to be offered for adoption
Multnomah County Animal Services will offer more than 60 rescued poodles for adoption after rescuing the dogs from a home in Southeast Portland.
The 65 poodles were recovered, along with five cats and four birds, from a house at in the 13200 block of Southeast Harold Street in Portland at noon Thursday, May 9, after Portland Police arrived to check the welfare of an elderly woman who lives there.
Some of the animals were in filthy condition, matted and caked with feces. Others were in slightly better condition. All the animals were taken to the Animal Services shelter in Troutdale at 1700 W. Columbia River Highway, which is seeking volunteers with pet-grooming experience to help get the animals cleaned up.
The 80-year-old woman who had the dogs isn't likely to face any criminal charges. Although she kept them well fed, it appears she simply could not keep up with their other needs, animal control officials said.
Check the shelter's website at www.multcopets.org to see when the animals are available for adoption. Because the animals need to be groomed, examined and given behavioral assessments, they most likely won't be available for adoption until this week. Some of the animals also will be transferred to adoption placement partners in the community.

Mid-session town hall scheduled
Rep. Shemia Fagan, D-Portland, who represents mid- Multnomah and North Clackamas counties, will host a town hall meeting in Happy Valley to update constituents on her work in the current legislative session.
The meeting is at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Happy Valley City Hall, 16000 S.E. Misty Drive.
Topics will include education, job creation and other top issues facing House District 51 and the state. Fagen's goal with the town hall is to get feedback and questions to help shape her work during the rest of the legislative session.
Prime Timers Dining Club to meet June 5
The Prime Timers Dining Club will meet Wednesday, June 5, at Francis Xaviers Restaurant, 1933 N.E. 181st Ave., Portland.

The David Douglas High School class of 1973 will celebrate its 40-year reunion from 6-11:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Sheraton Portland Airport.

Historical Society hosts tours
The Fairview Rockwood Wilkes Historical Society is offering tours of the Zimmerman and Heslin House museums from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18.
Built in 1874, the Zimmerman House was home to three generations of the Zimmerman family. Furnishing and personal articles remain in the two-story Victorian home, 17111 N.E. Sandy Blvd., Gresham.
Located at 60 Main St. in Fairview, the Heslin House was built in 1890 and includes photographs, maps, text and artifacts about Fairview settlers. The tour also will include the Historical Fairview City Jail.

Estacada reunion July 13
A multiclass reunion of Estacada High School graduates from the 1970s will be held all day Saturday, July 13, at Timber Park. There is a $5 fee to attend. There will be a potluck consisting of finger food and desserts. Its suggested that attendees bring their own beverages and lawn chairs. There will be a raffle.

Shred Day for SnowCap
An opportunity awaits to help people get rid of unwanted paper and simultaneously benefit SnowCap Community Charities.
The third annual "Shred Day for SnowCap" will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, June 3, at the Summer Place Assisted Living Community Clubhouse, 15727 N.E. Russell St.
Summer Place and SnowCap are asking participating shedders to donate $5 in cash or three or four cans of food or other nonperishable edible items.
Learn to Naturescape in Troutdale
Troutdale offers a free workshop in Naturescaping 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday May 18 at the Troutdale Community Conference Building, 223 Buxton Road.
Naturescaping is the practice of designing (or redesigning) your landscape so that it reduces water use and decreases stormwater runoff while saving you time, money and energy.
The introductory workshop explores pollution prevention through the reduction and elimination of chemical use,
how native plants naturally resist pests and tolerate drought conditions while attracting native birds, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators to your garden, as well as basic site planning principals, and other natural garden design tips.
