Glover named Head Start Parent of Year
Mt. Hood Community College announced this week that Landra Glover has been named the National Head Start Parent of the Year.
The mother of a 5-year-old son who is enrolled in a Head Start program, she serves as vice chairwoman of the Head Start Policy Council for the 11 sites managed by MHCC.
Glover has spoken about positive male involvement to numerous Portland area organizations, including MHCCs Head Start program and Healthy Birth Initiative.
Glovers book on the subject, The Arms That Are Needed Daughters Reflect on Fatherly Love, features 37 interviews with women ages 16 to 83 who talk about their relationships with their fathers.
Family Fun Night May 31 at St. Therese
St. Therese School will host a Family Fun Night from 3-7 p.m. Friday, May 31, at the school at Northeast 132nd Avenue and Halsey Street.

MHCC student finalist for award
A Mt. Hood Community College student is up for an award at the Portland State University Impact Entrepreneurs programs Elevating Impact Summit on Friday, June 21.
Glenda Maribel Alfaro Salmeron, of Mt. Hood Community Colleges SEED program, is among five finalists for the Student Impact Award.
We established these awards to recognize promising and noted change makers in our region who are seeking bold ways to make a large and lasting difference, said Cindy Cooper, co-founder and director of Impact Entrepreneurs.
Alfaro finished second in the Clinton Global Initiative Universitys Commitments Challenge at Washington University in St. Louis earlier this spring.
