Gresham resident Edmund J. Ed Rice I died Friday, May 10. He was 86.
A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, with a 7 p.m. Scriptural Rosary, at Gresham Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at St. Henry Catholic Church.
Ed was born March 29, 1927, in Meadville, Pa., to Frank and Mary Rice. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Ed married Harriet Lowther in 1950 at St. Agathas Catholic Church.
Ed worked for the postal service, retiring as postal inspector in 1980. After retirement, Ed and Harriet traveled extensively through 48 countries and all 50 states.
While living in California, Ed built a family cabin in the lower Sequoia Forest. He loved fishing, hunting and eating good food.
Ed is survived by his wife; children, Mary Jo Simon, Kathleen A. Chance and Edmund J. Rice II; five grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.
Irene Brinkman
March 15, 1921-May 12, 2013
Irene Brinkman, a Sandy area resident, died Sunday, May 12. She was 92.
Arrangements are pending for a memorial service at Sandy Funeral Home.
Irene was born March 15, 1921, in Stanfield to Guy and Ida Knapp. For the last five years, Irene lived in the Sandy area.

Melvin Thomas Doty
April 25th, 1943 – May 6th, 2013
Tom Doty passed away early Monday morning from heart failure at the age of 70.
He was born in Sioux Falls, North Dakota on a Sioux Indian reservation, to his mother Grace, who passed away when he was only twelve years old. He then stayed with an uncle until the age of fifteen, when he left to travel on his own to find his father, Ivan.
Tom grew up with a strong work ethic, and when he found his father, they worked together as loggers until he graduated from High School. Over the years he enjoyed working several different jobs, including being a Physicians Assistan, a cowboy/bull rider, a prize fighter, a biker, and a heavy equipment operator. He was also a member of The Special Forces in the Viet Nam war, where he was a POW/MIA for eleven months. Tom loved to work, and help those around him and refused to let anything slow him down. He made many friends throughout his life, and is loved and respected by every person whose life he touched.
Tom is survived by his best friend and significant other, Linda Ray, her daughter Katherine Coope (and her husband Justin Coope), son Nicholas Ray (and his children Ivy, Nathaniel, Kylee and Meredith). He is also survived by his daughter Christine Fodrea (including her husband Sean, and their son Ryan), as well as his step-daughter Cheryl Blanc, and his step-son Greg Blanc.
There will be a service held in his memory on Thursday, May 16th, 2013 at 11:00, at Corbett Community Church.
Remedios Squellati
Our dear mother, wife and friend was born on February 9, 1934 to Milagros Reyes and Narcisso Allegre in Manila, Philippines. She came to the U.S. in the mid-1950s to attend colleges in San Francisco and Berkeley. California. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business, and also met her future husband of 54 years while attending school.
In December 1959, she married Clarence P. Squellati from Richmond, California and had three children. She is survived by her husband, three children, Marisa, Lorenzo(Karen), and Ana Maria(Gary), three granddaughters, four grand-dogs, and her own beloved pets, Mika and Tasha.
Remedios had many interests including being an avid gardener with an amazing green thumb. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking meals with her husband, attending new plays, plotting through crossword puzzles and learning new health regiments to incorporate into her life. Her favorite activity though was spending time with her family. She enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband on his business and leisure trips in the U.S. and with her immediate family to Spain, France, and Italy.
As a young teenager, she was extensively involved in ballet dancing and had danced in a number of performances in the Philippines, including the Nutcracker and Swan Lake. After coming to the U.S., she continued to engage in her love of dance attending many performances including flamenco, classic ballet and theatre.
Remedios loved her family and friends deeply, and will always be remembered as a kind, affectionate, generous and caring person. For those lives that she touched, her warmth and love will never be forgotten. For us, she will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live in our hearts forever.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 12:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham. Private Inurment will take place at a later date.
