A 22-year-old Gresham man recently charged with manslaughter for a crash in Southern Oregon last Labor Day weekend that killed another Gresham man has an extensive history of alcohol-related arrests.

Among those arrests is one for driving under the influence of intoxicants that took place just three months before the fatal crash.

Sean Taylor Berglund was indicted last week by a Lake County grand jury on a charge of first-degree manslaughter for the Sept. 2, 2012, death of Robert Edward Sanchez Busch, 22, also of Gresham.

Berglund pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Monday, May 13. He was then booked into the Lake County Jail in Lakeview on $50,000 bail, which he posted 10 percent of, or $5,000, and was released.

"According to the Lake County District Attorney's Office, the court set numerous conditions to assist in monitoring the defendant's behavior and compliance after release from custody," said Lt. Gregg Hastings, Oregon State Police spokesman.

He is not allowed to consume alcohol or controlled substances, has a curfew, and no alcohol is allowed in his parents' house in Gresham, where he is living, said Ulys Stapleton, Lake County district attorney who is prosecuting the case.

A recently concluded investigation by Oregon State Police found that Berglund was driving a 1997 Ford F150 pickup northbound on Highway 31 about 4 miles south of Silver Lake at 12:50 a.m. Sept. 2, 2012, when the truck ran off the road into a ditch and rolled several times, landing on its top.

Busch, who was a passenger, died at the scene. Berglund was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a Bend hospital.

Berglund told investigating troopers an unidentified third person was driving the vehicle. But Oregon State Police investigated that claim and after its multi-month investigation, which included DNA testing, determined that Berglund was driving the pickup when it crashed.by: COURTESY: LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - Sean Taylor Berglund

He also allegedly was under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the crash.

According to the Multnomah County jail records, Gresham police arrested Berglund for driving under the influence of intoxicants in Gresham on June 2, 2012. He was released on his own recognizance.

Gresham police also arrested him on eight counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor on May 15, 2011. He was released on his own recognizance for that offense, too.

Three months before that arrest, Portland police arrested him on Feb. 5, 2011, at a bar for disorderly conduct.

The investigation into the fatal crash in Southern Oregon is ongoing.
