Police say suspect stabbed victims roommate when she tried to intervene

A Portland man is behind bars after allegedly attacking his estranged wife at her home, then stabbing her roommate when she came to the victim's aid.

Officers from the Portland Police Bureau's North Precinct at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, responded to reported stabbing at the Parkway Garden Apartments in the 14200 block of Northeast Sandy Boulevard in the Argay neighborhood, said Sgt. Pete Simpson, Portland Police spokesman.

There they found a woman who'd been stabbed multiple times by her roommate's estranged husband. The man had come over to the apartment, where he allegedly sexually assaulted his wife, then he stabbed the roommate when she tried to intervene.

He fled the scene, but police found him three hours later in Gresham, in the 17000 block of Northeast Fargo Street, where he was arrested.
