OREGON CITY — Damascus Christian junior guard Edward Zopf stole the show at North Clackamas Christian and lifted the Eagles to a 48-37 win on Friday’s boys’ basketball contest.

Zopf was lethal from three-point range and North Clackamas had no answer. After missing a few shots early, Zopf went on a tear, sinking six 3-pointers by game’s end to finish with 18 points.

“You can’t let the misses bother you. I’ve always been taught to just keep shooting,” Zopf said. “My mentality is if I miss, the next one is going in.”

North Clackamas opened the game in a zone defense, but after that left Zopf alone in the corner, the Saints quickly switched to man defense.

It didn’t work.

Even when double-teamed, Zopf still drained the long ball.

The sharp-shooting by Zopf allowed the Eagles to get set defensively on almost every play. Demascus used that extra time to go into a trap defense midway through the second quarter which completely flustered North Clackamas. The combination of Zopf’s shooting and the Saints’ turnovers fueled a 27-4 Damascus run that gave the Eagles a 24-point lead and put the game out of reach.

Look for extended game coverage in the Dec. 28 print edition.
