The Scots overtake eight teams late in Saturdays final session to bring home a trophy
EUGENE Landing in the trophy mix appeared to be a long shot for the David Douglas boys track team late in Saturdays final session at the 6A state meet. The Scots had totaled 17 team points, putting them outside the top-10.
But a rush to the finish saw David Douglas put up points in five of the last six events, rocketing up the leader board to claim the third-place trophy. Second-place finishes by Joshua Kellebrew in the 800-meter final, Samson Ebukam in the javelin and from the 1,600 relay powered the scoring spurt.
Ebukam led the javelin from the end of prelims through the last handful of throws in the finals. He had fired the spear past the 200-foot line twice only to see Oregon Citys Beau Brosseau steal the victory on his final trip down the runway with a heave of 206 feet 6 inches farther than Ebukams best effort.
The event featured four Mount Hood Conference throwers among the top-seven placers.
