Irwin L. Byers

Former Gresham resident Irwin L. Byers died Friday, May 10. He was 98.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Clear Creek Community Church, 4100 S.E. 182nd, Gresham.
Irwin was born in Junction City March 24, 1915. He graduated from Oregon State College in 1940 with a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering.
Irwin worked at Vaughn Motor Company and then for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until retirement in 1973.
Irwin lived in Gresham from 1978 to 2007, before he moved to Hillsboro to be closer to family.
Irwin was preceded in death by his first wife, Elma Vera Byers, in 1967; his daughter, Louise Byers Foreman in 1993; and his second wife of 24 years, Louise Schley Byers, in 2011.
He is survived by his son, Harold Byers; one stepdaughter, Jade Hall; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Donations in Irwins name may be made to World Vision or Wycliffe Bible Translators in lieu of flowers.
Fred Monroe
Sept. 5, 1938-May 20, 2013
East County resident Fred Monroe died Monday, May 20, in Portland. He was 74.
No service will be held.
Fred was born Sept. 5, 1938, in Sweetwater, Tenn., to Charles and Viola (Evans) Monroe. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Fred married Jane Marusek in 1961, in Detroit. In 1978, the couple moved to Gresham, where Fred enjoyed fishing and metal detecting.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, and granddaughter, Peyton Monroe. Survivors include his three children, Jeff Monroe, Loretta Ryan and Roger Monroe; brother, Tom Monroe; four sisters, Vivian, Lois, Linda and Martha Monroe; and four grandchildren, Austin and Avalon Monroe and Laura and Mitchell Ryan.

Kenneth C. Cuyler

Funeral service for long time Gresham resident, Ken C. Cuyler will be held on Saturday, May 25 at 10a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church 507 W. Powell Blvd. Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
Ken C. Cuyler died May 20, 2013 at the age of 92.
Ken C. Cuyler was born on December 3, 1920 in Tumwater, Washington, the son of Oreville and Emma Cuyler. He had one brother, Vivan Cuyler.
As a child, Ken and family moved to San Francisco CA. where he was schooled in the primary grades. They then moved to Olympia, Wa. where he graduated from Olympia High School in 1939. He remained in Olympia and at the age of 24 enlisted into the Army Air Corp in 1942. During his tour of duty which spanned 17 yrs, he earned the rank of Tech. Sergeant. Ken was with the 8th Air Force and was stationed in England, Germany, Saudi Arabia plus many U.S. Bases. He received 5 Air Metals and 4 Battle Stars. Ken retired with a medical discharge in 1962 from the U.S. Air Force. Following his discharge, Ken came to Gresham and met Phyllis Jacobson and in 1971 they were married in Gresham. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Ken went to work for the State of Oregon and retired on December 31, 1982.
After the death of his wife Phyllis in 1990, Ken married Dorriene Peters, who also precedes him in death. He is now survived by his daughter Diane Pierson of Seattle, WA son: Kenneth O. Cuyler of Salem, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Althea Brown Dorman
September 7, 1920-March 28, 2013
Althea was a lifelong Oregonian who lived only six of her 92 years outside of this state. She met her husband Robert (Bob) Dorman at Grant High School in Portland and they married in 1942 while both were completing their degrees at Oregon State University. During their 67-year marriage Althea raised their three children, Kathleen, Ted and Jim and also involved herself heavily in community groups and volunteer work. She progressed from leading Camp Fire and Cub Scouts in the early years to serving for years in the Lewis & Clark Mothers Club while her sons attended the college. Althea and Bob spent their last 30 years together living on their dream property along the Salmon River in Welches. They were very active as volunteers in the community until Bobs death in 2009 when Altheas poor health forced her to leave the mountain and live at Cascadia Village in Sandy.
A memorial service to honor Altheas life and her positive contributions to family, friends and her community will be held on Saturday, June 15 at 2 p.m. at The Resort at the Mountain in Welches. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Hood Hospice in Sandy, Oregon.
Roy Edwin Orton
August 21, 1952 - May 15, 2013
Roy Edwin Orton was born to Virgil & Bennetta Orton in Pendleton, OR on August 21, 1952.
At the age of 5 his Grandfather, Elam, taught him to fish the Deschutes River. Roy became fascinated with the sport and spent many long days casting a line and enjoying his rewards.
Roy graduated in 1970 from The Dalles High School. Enrolled at Mt Hood CC, was drafted and became a member of the 5th Battalion, 59th Air Defense Artillery. After completing his enlistment he followed his interest in the food service industry enrolling in the Portland State Culinary School.
Completing the course, Roys first job was at the Satellite Restaurant in the Rockwood area. His love of cooking took him to many restaurants in East County. He was proud of his kitchen, his food and his staff spending many holidays feeding his loyal patrons.
In 1992 he met and married Susan King and together they enjoyed travel, and the many Rock and Roll Concerts they attended. When Susan retired, Roy liked the idea of also retiring and their s pending more time with each other and their family and friends.
Roy is survived by his wife, stepbrother, David Orton, step sister, Mary Ellen Medina, step son Michael Morrison (Colleen)-, step daughter, Cleone King, grandchildren: Katrina, Will, Nicholas, Shelby, Liam and Cale (his Fishing Buddies), and great granddaughter, Jaedyn.
We love and miss you and although the Angels play harps, I know you are playing your Rock and Roll with a 6 string Gibson. Rock on darling.
