Host families are needed for eight exchange students from Greshams sister city Sokcho, South Korea, who are visiting for two weeks from July 19-Aug. 2. The students are between the ages of 14 and 15, so families with children ages 13 to 16 are especially needed.
This exchange is a chance for the students, all of whom have studied English, to experience summer in the United States. It also is a chance for local teens to have a chance to travel to Sokcho as an exchange student next year.
The visit is informal, and host families can show their exchange student what their American life is like.
Someone from the host family will need to greet the student at the airport upon arrival and take the student back to the airport for the flight home. During the two-week stay, the Korean student and his host brother/sister will have one to two group activities, such as meeting the mayor. Some years, group barbecues or picnics are planned.
Host families must pass a background check and a home visit. Once approved, they can host up to two students. For more details or to apply, contact H.J. Yu at hjtaxservice, Kim Ell at k.ell@frontier.com or Paul Warr-King at 503-380-5957.
