In honor of Memorial Day, Gov. John Kitzhaber on Tuesday, May 28, held a ceremonial signing of a bill renaming Interstate 84 through Oregon the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway.
Also pictured from left to right are Sen. Laurie Monnes Anderson, D-Gresham; and members of the Gresham Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 180 Scott Gill, Dennis Lindoff, Tyler Marriott, Commander Val Shaul, Joshua Ray and Rep. Greg Matthews, D-Gresham. Both politicians worked to get the bill approved in the House and Senate.
Kitzhaber officially signed it into law on April 11.
Monnes Anderson is vice chairwoman of the Senates veterans and emergency preparedness committee, while Matthews is chairman of the same committee in the House.
Monnes Anderson spearheaded the bill to rename Oregons stretch of Interstate 84, and is working with politicians in Idaho and Utah to pass similar legislation to rename the entire length of the highways western span.
