Herman Huck

May 3, 1919-Dec. 22, 2012

Gresham resident Herman Huck died Saturday, Dec. 22, surrounded by family and friends at his home. He was 93.

At his request, no service will be held.

Herman was born May 3, 1919, in Lincoln, Neb., to John and Catherine Huck. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a combat engineer.

He married Esther Dietz. They had two girls, Cheryl and Bobbie.

Herman’s passion was woodworking. As a master gardener, he loved growing things for family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and making clocks.

Herman loved all of his Gresham neighbors and counted them among of his best friends.

His wife preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Bobbie Sue Foteff-Slaven of Gresham; and brother, Bob Huck of San Rafael, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Wells Fargo Bank in Gresham to the Herman Huck trust fund.

Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Esther Peters

Dec. 1, 1918-Dec. 22, 2012

East County resident Esther Peters died Saturday, Dec. 22, after a battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was 94.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem.

Esther was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Bingham Lake Minn., to Anna and August Baer. She had a twin sister.

Esther graduated from Bingham Lake High School in 1937. After her family moved to Salem, she met and married Richard Peters.

The couple moved to Portland in 1946. Esther was a homemaker for 30 years. After she and Richard divorced in 1973, Esther worked at Electronics Specialties for 21 years.

Esther volunteered at Snow Cap Community Charities in retirement. She also loved to garden, sew and travel.

She was preceded in death by her brother, two sisters and son Charles.

Survivors include her son, Douglas; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces; and one nephew.

Fisher Enoch Kollenburn

June 21, 2012-Dec. 21, 2012

Fisher Enoch Kollenburn, a Gresham resident, died Friday, Dec. 21. He was 6 months old.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Grace Community Church, 800 S.E. Hogan Road, Gresham.

A twin, he was born June 21, 2012, in Portland to Caleb and Brandilee (Schwark) Kollenburn.

Fisher is survived by his parents, of Gresham; brothers, Micah, Bear and Hunter Kollenburn of Gresham, and Braxton Warren of Portland; and grandparents, Dustin and Janette Kunkel of Portland, and Guy and Kathy Kollenburn of Gresham.

Contributions may be made in memory of Fisher in care of Caleb Kollenburn at any Onpoint Community Credit Union.

Gresham Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Troy Miller

Troy Steven Miller, a resident of Oregon City, passed on December 15, 2012 in Portland. He was 37 years of age.

Troy was born on November 13, 1975 in Portland, Oregon and was the son of Michael and Darla (Yeager) Miller. He grew up in Gresham where he attended Barlow High School.

In 2004, he married Melanie Spraggins at his family’s home in Gresham. They were later divorced.

Troy worked as an Inspector for DEQ. He operated out of the Gresham office and was later transferred to the Downtown location. In his free time, he enjoyed snowboarding, sports and spending time on the water. He was adventurous and a people person who never met a stranger.

Troy is survived by his dad and step-mom, Mike and Susan Miller of Oregon City, mom and step-dad, Darla Yeager and Rick Adams of Gresham, sisters, Trina Schlichting of Vancouver and Shellie Adams of Gresham and brothers, Scott Miller of Oregon City, Jason Thompson of Portland, Jeremy Adams of Corvallis and Troy Adams of Texas along with his grandparents Andy Anderson of Eagle Creek and Dave and Barb Yeager of Tygh Valley.

A Celebration of Troy’s life will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Abundant Life Church, 17241 SE Hemrich Rd., Damascus, OR 97089.
