The fourth annual Hydrocephalus Walk is scheduled for Saturday, June 15 in Fairview. The event is a fundraiser to support a local boy, Grant Miller, 7, who attends first grade at East Orient Grade School.
Miller was diagnosed with hydrocephalus three weeks before birth, caused by a stroke in utero. At the age of two days, he had his first surgery to implant a shunt to drain excess fluid from the brain.
The event is described as a fun day at the park, with kids activities, a two-mile walk around the park and a barbecue lunch that the Portland Firefighters Association, Local 43, provides.
Registration for the walk is at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Blue Lake Park, 20500 N. Marine Drive, Fairview. The walk begins at 10 a.m. Participants receive a walk T-shirt if they raise $50.
Register online by visiting walk4hydro.kintera.org/Portland or mail checks to the Miller family at P.O. Box 922, Boring OR 97009.
