A potluck celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at the home of Dick Dowdsett.

Organizers have located 27 of the 62 classmates and are looking for seven others. Of the classmates, 28 have died.

The remaining seven classmates are Robert Zimmerman, George Looper, Donna Kirkpatrick, Frederick Vourgeois, Emma Rohrbach and Barbara Schiffbauer.

These classmates, or anyone who knows their whereabouts, are encouraged to call Dowdsett at 503-665-7576 for details about the potluck.

Springwater student wins essay contest

Caitlin McCoy, a senior at Springwater Trail High School, is the first-place winner of the Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. (OSFGC) high school essay contest.

McCoy plans to attend Portland State University in the fall, where she will pursue a degree in agricultural engineering. For her essay, she wrote about “The trouble with boats” on the topic of “ways we can protect aquatic ecosystems.”

After winning at the state level, McCoy’s essay advanced to the Pacific Region (Washington, Arizona, California, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii). Sunny Hills Garden Club from the Clackamas District of the OSFGC sponsored McCoy.
