Scots sweep past Three Rivers foes

The David Douglas wrestling team scored a doubleheader sweep over Three Rivers League favorites Canby and Oregon City last Thursday.

The Scots won 10 of the 14 weight classes against Canby, three by pin, to claim a 51-18 dual win over the Cougars. Quentin Jamieson put Douglas in front with a 15-0 technical fall at 113 pounds, followed by falls from teammates Tristin Molinari (120) and Jesse Delgado (126). Jerome Massad had the quickest pin of the dual, finishing off his 220-pound opponent in just 48 seconds.

Quincy Clarkson picked up the night’s closest win with a 3-1 decision at 182 pounds, while Vagif Afrasov scored a major decision at 145 and Elijah Taylor won 6-1 against 160.

The Scots finished the night with a 43-29 win over Oregon City, clinching the dual victory when Ihoghama Odighizuwa won with a first-round fall at 195 pounds. Douglas took command of the dual with three straight middleweight wins with Afrasov taking a 20-6 major decision (145), while Rick Molinari (152) and Taylor) scored second-round pins. The spurt put the Scots in front 34-14 with five bouts remaining.

Andrew Curry (106) picked up a pin with :07 left in the first round, while Jesse Delgado (126) also beat the buzzer by flattening his opponent with 10 seconds left in the second round. Massad finished the night with a 5-2 decision at 285 pounds.
