A man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a busy street in Rockwood on Thursday afternoon.
The pedestrian was crossing Southeast Burnside Road at 197th Avenue in a crosswalk but against the light at 1:24 p.m. Thursday, June 13, when an eastbound vehicle struck him, said Lt. Claudio Grandjean, Gresham Police spokesman.
Paramedics transported the patient to Oregon Health & Science University with critical injuries.
Drug, alcohol or speed do not appear to be factors in the accident, Grandjean said. The driver is cooperating with the investigation, and no citations have been issued. Police have not released the pedestrian's name.
Traffic investigators are still investigating, and eastbound traffic at 197th is closed.
The accident happened on the same day Gresham traffic officers conducted pedestrian-safety missions near Centennial High School on Southeast 182nd Ave.
