Roger Ewing Lowe

March 16, 1917-March 22, 2013

Gresham resident Roger Ewing Lowe died Friday, March 22. He was 96.

No services will be held for Roger. Contributions may be made in his memory to the American Lung Association.

Roger was born March 16, 1917, in Wilkinson, Wash., to Oscar and Pearl Lowe. He graduated from Wilkinson High School and enlisted in the Merchant Marine, serving in World War II. He was honorably discharged July 12, 1945.

Roger married Veryl Virginia Howard on Sept. 12, 1941, in Santa Monica, Calif. He worked for Orange County Sanitation, retiring in 1976. The couple moved to Grants Pass in 1978 and to Gresham in 1996.

Roger enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing.

His wife; son, Jim Lowe; brother, Robert Lowe; and granddaughter preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters, Elayne Brott and Carol Lewis; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Agnes L. Loftin

Nov. 2, 1914-March 23, 2013

East County Resident Agnes L. Loftin died Saturday, March 23. She was 98.

A full obituary will run in a future edition of The Outlook. Gresham Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Lester Keaton Bright

Sept. 3, 1926-March 20, 2013

Estacada resident Lester Keaton Bright died Wednesday, March 20. He was 86.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, at Lincoln Memorial Park, with a reception at Greater Grace Church.

Lester was born Sept. 3, 1926, in Mahnomen, Minn., to Warren and Clara Bright. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1945 and received an honorable discharge from the Army.

Lester married Arline Eikesdahl on Oct. 5, 1947. He owned and operated Blacktop Paving Company Inc. and Portland Road and Driveway Co. for 40 years, teaching three generations the craft of his trade.

Lester loved working in his yard, laughing with friends and family, driving convertibles, traveling with Arline and golfing. 

Lester is survived by his wife; son, Mike Bright; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

June Joyce Davis

June 22, 1937-March 13, 2013

Eagle Creek resident June Joyce Davis died Wednesday, March 13. She was 75.

A funeral service was held March 18 at Sandy Funeral Home.

June was born June, 22, 1937, in Bismarck, N.D., to Katherine (Gress) and Virgil Jackson. The family moved to Oregon, settling in Boring, and June attended Boring Grade School and Sandy High School.

She married Richard Davis on Jan. 28, 1955, and began their family in Boring. June was not only a wonderful mother to her own children, but to many other young friends and family members throughout her life. She also was very involved in the family scrap metal business.

Survivors include her son, Rex Davis of Sandy; daughters, Joan Davis of Prineville, Jodi Nichols of Ridgefield Wash., and Lana Davis of Eagle Creek; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Alice Kathern Felix

Aug. 25, 1935-March 19, 2013

Alice Kathern Felix of Boring died Tuesday, March 19, in Portland. She was 77.

A funeral service was held Monday, March 25, at Sandy Funeral Home.  

Alice was born Aug. 25, 1935, in Portland to Mina (Carr) and John F. Clark. She was raised in the Portland area, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1952.

Alice married Duane H. Probst on Dec. 11, 1954. They made their home in Portland, where Alice enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She and Duane divorced after 25 years.

In 1980, Alice married George Felix, and they lived in Boring. George died in 2012.

Alice was also preceded in death by her brothers, John and William Clark.

Survivors include her daughters, Debra Sorensen, Kim Hoffman and Michelle Peppers; son, Keven Probst; and stepchildren, Chris Felix and Rebecca Farmer.

Elsie A. Don

Oct. 27, 1914-March 24, 2013

East County resident Elsie A. Don died Sunday, March 24, in Portland. She was 98. 

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 29, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 9-11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Elsie was born on Oct. 27, 1914, in New York City to Andrew and Mary (Maguth) Barabas.

Elsie married her childhood sweetheart, Egbert “Bert” Don, in 1938. Together Elsie and Bert formed DonBar Employment Agency in Minneola, Long Island, and then embarked on a 30-year military career in the U.S. Air Force.

They were stationed in many U.S. duty stations, Germany, Newfoundland and finally in Portland. They lived in the Gresham area for 40 years. Elsie was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Gresham.

Her husband, Lt. Colonel Don, preceded Elsie in death in 1991. She is survived by three children, Lt. Col. Bruce W. Don (retired); Kenneth E. Don; and Diana L. Courtnier.
