Students stage I Never Saw Another Butterfly
Reynolds Middle School Theatre and SUN are presenting I Never Saw Another Butterfly. Set in Terezin, a Jewish ghetto during World War II, the Celeste Raspanti play tells the story of the more than 15,000 children who passed through on their way to the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Based on a book of poems and drawings that were rescued from the ghetto, the play is the true story of hope, courage and sheer determination that helped Holocaust survivors make it through each day.
Performances are in the Lancer Theatre at Reynolds Middle School at 7 p.m. April 11, 12, 19 and 20 and 3 p.m. April 14. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for students and seniors, and $3 for students (ID required for discount).
VIP packages, which include preferential seating, a cookie from the concession stand and a talk-back with the cast and crew after the performance, are available for $10. To reserve tickets, call the theater box office at 503-665-8166, ext. 3584.
Due to the nature of the subject matter, the play is recommended for children 10 and older. The play is being produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Ill.
Job fair coming April 16
The Mt. Hood Community College Career Planning and Counseling Center is hosting the 2013 Career and Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in the Vista Dining center, 26000 S.E. Stark St.
This free event provides students and community members the opportunity to meet with employers who are hiring.
Among the employers featured at the fair will be FedEx Ground, New Seasons Market, Microchip Technology, The Dannon Company, The Hertz Corporation, U.S. Bank, TriMet and others.
Fair-goers may also take a class in the 10 Resume Writing Mistakes You Dont Want to Make, by Dawn Rasmussen of Pathfinder Career Services. She will be available to sign copies of her book, Forget Job Security: Build Your Marketability!

Camp registration begins April 1
Registration for Mt. Hood Community Colleges Summer Adventure Camp will open April 1 for youths 7 to 16.
During each one-week camp, kids will have an opportunity to participate in activities such as rock climbing, swimming and navigating with a compass. Campers also will have a chance to play board games and do arts and crafts, science projects and group activities.
All camp days are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early drop-off and late pickup options are available for parents with busy schedules.

Celebrate native culture with Reynolds
The Title VII Indian Education Parent Committee is presenting a public event that celebrates and recognizes the Native American students and families of the Reynolds School District.
Spirit of the Children Powwow will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at Reynolds Middle School, 1200 N.E. 201st Ave., Fairview. Games and vending booths will open at 11 a.m., with grand entries at 1 and 7 p.m. and a community feed at 5:30 p.m.

Eighth-grade parent night at Sam Barlow
Sam Barlow High School will hold an eighth-grade parent night Thursday, April 4, at the school, 5105 S.E. 302nd Ave.
The event will begin at 5:45 p.m. with an ice cream social and a co-curricular activities event in the cafeteria. The evening will continue with a general session at 6:30 p.m. and a program on class electives at 7 p.m.

Mt. Hood wins national forensics award
Mt. Hood Community Colleges Forensics Team won the Silver Sweepstakes Award at the 2013 Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament and Convention held March 13-16 in St. Louis.
MHCC competed against 88 other colleges and universities from all over the country. Kim Neal, Elsie Praeger, Ryan Rhodes and Stephanie Saracco represented the Saints.
Saracco and Rhodes nabbed third place in British Parliamentary Debate. Saracco also was named National Champion in After Dinner Speaking and won second place in Poetry and Prose Interpretation. Rhodes earned an Excellent Award in Extemporaneous Speaking.
None of this could have happened without the great leadership and coaching of Elizabeth Kinnaman, interim director of Forensics, and David Childers, assistant coach, said Shannon Valdivia, MHCC speech instructor and longtime forensics coach.
Ring in Charter Day April 4
Mt. Hood Community College will celebrate Charter Day from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, April 4, as part of MHCCs First Thursday music and culture series.
Students should join us so they can learn about the history of the college and see how far we have progressed, says Mary Burlingame, from the Student Union.
Charter Day recognizes the early days of MHCC. The charter was signed by then-Oregon Gov. Tom McCall in April 1968, two years after the college began enrolling students.
MHCC is now the fourth largest community college in Oregon and serves on average 30,000 students per year.
The event will feature strawberry cupcakes, some of the colleges archives on display and the Chuck Redd group performing jazz.
All activities will take place in the Student Union on the Gresham Campus, 26000 S.E. Stark St.
