For three years, John and Susie McAdams have hosted a light show synchronized to music at their 19th century Gresham home.

This year, the couple has decided to collect donations for their favorite charity, Multnomah County Animal Services, where they found two of their beloved cats. All funds will help reduce pet homelessness.

by: CONTRIBUTED PHOTO - A Christmas light show synchronized to music at John and Susie McAdams home in Gresham will benefit Multnomah County Animal Shelter.

“Sit in your nice, warm car, watch the lights and listen to the music,” John McAdams said.

McAdams said he’d seen an outpouring of support for donations and it refueled his excitement for putting the display together. He and Susie have a goal of raising $1,000 for the shelter.

Running just over 37 minutes and looping through the evening, the Christmas music show can be heard on 87.9 FM. The display features 17,166 lights controlled by 200 channels.

Because the show blinks and fades, the McAdams’ electric bill is only doubling instead of quadrupling this year. All the light displays have been built by the McAdams with supplies from Lowes and Home Depot.

Songs range from Dean Martin’s “Frosty the Snowman” to Jingle Bells Techno, and from “Carol of the Bells” to Linus and Lucy.

The McAdams will offer a special show Christmas Eve in which they track Santa’s sleigh and provide announcements throughout the evening.

Donations may be made Saturdays at the show when the McAdams walk around in Santa hats talking to visitors or through the PayPal section of their website, blinky-flashy.com.

The house is at 2133 SW 18th Terrace in Gresham.
