Mutschler honored as OSEA Employee of the Year
Reynolds School District employee Sue Mutschler has been named the Oregon School Employees Association 2013 Employee of the Year.
Mutschler was honored during a school board work session Wednesday, April 24, joined by family members and friends who had been hiding out in a side room until the announcement.
Over the course of nearly 24 years, this years winner has earned a reputation throughout your district as the go-to-gal because she is always there willing and able to help, Tim Stoelb, OSEA president, said of Mutschler.
Employee of the Year is one of OSEAs highest honors bestowed on one educational employee each year. A feature story about Sue Mutschler will run in a future edition of The Outlook.
Centennial raises funds for senior all-night party
Families of graduating seniors at Centennial High School are raising money for the Oh the Places You Will Go class of 2013 senior all-night party Thursday, May 30.
Contributions may be made to CHS Eagles Class of 2013 with All Night Grad Party in the memo line. Donations of small and large prizes and gift certificates are welcomed. Monetary donations will cover the costs of food, entertainment and music.

'Fun Run Then... Done
A 5K run and walk supporting a senior all-night party for 2013 graduates of Gresham High School will be held Sunday, May 19, at the Gresham Arts Plaza.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with the run and walk beginning at 9 a.m. An after-race reception will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Gresham Arts Plaza. The course will go through Gresham and along the Springwater Trail.
At the race reception, the runner with the best costume and the runner-up costume, along with the first-, second- and third-place finishers, will receive awards.

Damascus student wins music scholarship
Aaron Reihs, a Damascus resident and Sam Barlow High School student, has been named a recipient of an annual Oregon Music Hall of Fame college scholarship.
He will be formally presented with his scholarship during a performance celebration from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at Jimmy Maks, 221 N.W. 10th Ave., Portland.
All together, the Oregon Music Hall of Fame will distribute $4,000 of scholarship money to four students to cover a portion of their college tuition costs. Each of the students is pursuing a music education degree and was selected from more than 100 applicants.

Little Women the musical comes to Centennials stage
Centennial High School will stage Little Women the musical at 7 p.m. May 9-11 and May 16-19.
The adaptation of Louisa May Alcotts story was written by Allan Knee, with music by Jason Howland and lyrics by Mini Dickstein. Little Women follows the adventures of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March as they grow up in Civil War America.

Visual arts students present juried exhibition
Mt. Hood Community College visual arts students will present their best work in a juried exhibition May 13 through June 6 in the Visual Arts Gallery.
The exhibit will showcase works in ceramics, drawing, life drawing, printmaking, painting, jewelry/metals, sculpture, 2-D and 3-D design, digital, watercolor and calligraphy.
An opening reception will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, in the Visual Arts Gallery. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday on the east side of the Gresham campus, 26000 S.E. Stark St.

Take Swim America lessons at Gresham High
The Gresham High School Pool will offer swim lessons from 3:40-4:25 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday each week.
Lessons are $25 for four lessons for children age 6 and older. Sign-up is required 15 minutes before any lesson.

MHCC Budget Committee meets Wednesday
The Mount Hood Community College District Budget Committee will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at 26000 S.E. Stark St., Gresham.
During its third meeting, the committee is expected to approve the 2013-14 school budget and establish tax rates. The regular board meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m.

Raiders host free spring football camps
The Reynolds High School Raiders will hold free spring football camps beginning Friday, May 17, with practice starting in June. The one-time participation fee for practices is $10.
Camps and practices, which are non-contact and focused on skills training, will be held at Reynolds Middle School, 1200 N.E. 201st Ave., Fairview.
Camps will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 17; 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 18; 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 31; and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 1. Practices will be held 6-8 p.m. each Thursday night, starting June 6.

Visit Natural Reliefs at MHCC
The Fireplace Gallery at Mt. Hood Community College is hosting a free art exhibit, Natural Reliefs by Kelli MacConnell, through May 30.
The Fireplace Gallery is in the Student Union on the Gresham Campus, 26000 S.E. Stark St. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
MacConnells current body of work focuses on the Pacific Northwest landscape.
With the simple use of a line, contrast of black and white and sometimes a minimal use of color, I strive to create exhilarating compositions inspired by the natural world, MacConnell said.
Springdale School receives Oregon Heritage Excellence Award
Individuals, organizations and projects that have made outstanding contributions to preserving Oregon heritage will receive 2013 Oregon Heritage Excellence Awards Thursday, May 9 at a dinner at the Melody Ballroom.
Among the honorees is the Springdale School restoration project in Corbett as an example of an outstanding historic preservation project that benefits the local community.
"The award recipients represent the diversity of efforts to preserve Oregon's heritage," said Kyle Jansson, coordinator for the Oregon Heritage Commission. "They also serve as models for others for how to make the most out of available resources."

MHCC dental hygiene students teach dental care to elementary schoolers
Students in Mt. Hood Community Colleges Dental Hygiene program will volunteer their time to teach elementary school students how to care for their teeth and gums.
MHCC students will visit Alder Elementary School, part of the Reynolds School District, May 13 and 20, providing fun and entertaining education about proper nutrition and the importance of good dental habits. They also visited the school May 6.
Alder Elementary School was selected as the nations first dreamer school by the I Have a Dream Foundation to help low-income students succeed in school, college and career. The dental hygienists support of Alder is part of MHCCs adoption of a grade level at Alder Elementary.
