Mt. Hood rallies late in Game 2 to maintain edge heading into final doubleheader

Clik here to view.OREGON CITY The Mt. Hood CC softball team retained its grip on first place in the South Region by splitting a doubleheader at Clackamas CC on Tuesday.
Clackamas CC won the opening game 6-3 after putting together a string of four straight singles during a breakout four-run spurt in the fourth inning. A pair of Mt. Hood fielding errors helped the rally along.
Mt. Hood cut the margin to 4-3 in the fifth inning on a two-run homer by Teauna Hughes, but Megan Malvick connected on a two-run shot of her own in the bottom of the inning to give Clackamas the win.
Clackamas threatened to sweep the doubleheader after carrying a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning of Game 2. But Mt. Hood responded with a six-run spurt en route to a 10-3 win.
Mt. Hood (34-5) holds a one-game lead over Clackamas (26-14) in the South Region standings. Both teams have clinched playoff spots. The Saints finish the regular season with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Friday at Lower Columbia.
