A Gresham man and his nephew have been arrested in connection with last weekend's shooting.
U.S. Marshal's arrested Pavel A. Kolesik, 44, of Gresham at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, in the 1000 block of Northwest Graham Road in Troutdale for his alleged role in the June 2 shooting, said Lt. Claudio Grandjean, Gresham police spokesman.
Later on Tuesday evening, police arrested his nephew Vladimir Kolesik, 22, of Vancouver at about 5:20 p.m. after he was seen boarding a westbound MAX train at Northeast 188th Avenue and East Burnside Street. Transit police stopped the train at the next stop, Northeast 162nd Avenue and East Burnside Street, where he was arrested without incident.
Police believe the two men were involved in the Sunday, June 2, shooting of Maxim Vorobyev, 32, of Vancouver, Grandjean said. Vorobyev was in the 21700 block of Southeast Alder Street looking for a relative at 3:45 a.m. when Pavel Kolesik allegedly confronted him in front of a nearby home. The two men started arguing and Koleski's nephew reportedly joined in and brandished a handgun.
Witnesses told police that the 22-year-old man then pointed the gun at Vorobyev and shot in him in the lower left leg. The victim hid between two cars as Vladimir Kolesik shot at him a second time.
The Kolesik's fled the scene in a silver minivan, which they crashed on Southeast Powell Boulevard near Interstate 205. Then they fled the crash scene on foot.
Vorobyev was treated for a non-life threatening injury at a Portland hospital.
Vladimir Kolesik is being held at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail on $250,000 bail for first-degree assault, which is a Measure 11 offense. He also is being held on $2,500 bail for a charge out of Marion County, plus no bail holds by the Immigration and Naturalization Service and by his parole or probation officer for violating the terms of his release on an unspecified conviction out of Multnomah County.
His uncle also is being held on a no-bail detainer warrant issued by his parole or probation officer for violating the terms of his release on convictions of fourth-degree assault and harassment, as well as on $5,000 bail for a new charge of hindering prosecution, at the Multnomah County Detention Center.
