Beaverton police arrested a Gresham man on Thursday, Dec. 13, who they believe is responsible for 15 car thefts since Nov. 1.
At about 1:30 p.m., police responded to a report of someone stealing a gray Honda Accord at the Sunset Transit Center, said Officer Mike Rowe, Beaverton Police spokesman. Washington County Sheriffs Office deputies who happened to be nearby found the stolen vehicle and pulled the driver over on eastbound Highway 26.
The driver, identified as Steven Wayne Brooks, 26, of Gresham, was turned over to Beaverton detectives who believe Brooks is responsible for approximately 15 motor vehicle thefts since Nov. 1, at Washington Square, Sunset Transit Center and the Beaverton Fred Meyer.
Brooks was also in possession of several personal profiles and may be charged with identity theft after further investigation, Rowe said.
He is being held at the Washington County Jail on $16,000 bail on eight allegations of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He also is being held without bail for violating his Multnomah County probation on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, providing false information to police and identity theft.
