A woman who reported being stabbed for no reason by another woman may have stabbed herself.
The alleged victim, who is in her 20s, told police that at 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, a woman walked up to her and stabbed her without provocation on Southeast 174th Avenue and Stark Street, said Sgt. Pete Simpson, Portland police spokesman.
Officers, including a police bureaus K-9 Unit, conducted an extensive search of the neighborhood, but did not find anyone matching the victim's description of the woman she said stabbed her.
Police did, however, recover evidence at the scene indicating that the woman's injury was self-inflicted, Simpson said.
The woman was treated for the stab wound, which is described as a non-life threatening injury, at a local hospital. She also will undergo a mental health evaluation.
Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call detectives at 503-823-0400.
